Closer Tips
Installation Tips
When attaching door closer arms, be sure to position arm correctly for proper
preload. Preload engages the gear teeth and compresses the springs inside the
closer. Preload information can be found on installation/instruction sheets.
There are two parts that make up most door closer arms: the main arm and the forearm. The main arm is always the part that attaches to the door closer. The forearm connects to either the door or frame.
Service Tips
To identify a door closer, look first at the closer body label. More detailed
information, such as the closer size and manufactured date can be found stamped
on the packing nut (where the shaft protrudes from the closer body).
If a door closer does not have enough closing force to latch the door, adjust the spring power first. Regulating valve adjustments should be made after the spring power is set.
