RIM EXIT DEVICES are surface mounted exit devices which are usually mounted on the surface of the secured side of a door.
MORTISE EXIT DEVICES are those exit devices whose locking mechanism is mounted or mortised into the door.
SURFACE or CONCEALED VERTICAL ROD EXIT DEVICES contain vertical rods that come off the exit device and add additional latching at the tops and or bottoms of doors.
FIRE EXIT HARDWARE offers the same features as other EXIT DEVICES such as appearance, finish and operational advantages(except dogging-not legal on fire rated doors) however, fire exit devices are constructed to retain a fire-containment door for at least 3 hours under test conditions.
